Project Overview

After successfully developing web sites for several other companies and brands that the Showplants team are associated with, Showplants approached SM2 to deliver an exciting new site to highlight the many services offered.

The first step was for SM2 to conduct a content audit of the existing site. It is important when conducting a redesign to ensure that all current content is identified and an appropriate action is taken for each piece of content.

This is an arduous task, but one which, if neglected, can cause problems with the redesigned site (especially in terms of broken links and missing content). SM2 was able to reutilise most of the content and images from the previous design and website as content and image resources were limited.

Showplants recently extended its range of plant hire and sales into a new service titled Plant Motel.  The Showplants nursery is well setup for plants to revive quickly and strongly from their time in hire situations, so they are ideally situated to offer this service. Leave your plants with Showplants or they will come and collect them, so while "you're away your plants are getting a rejuvenating holiday as well!" This unique service needed to be highlighted in the new web site design.

The primary goal of the brief identified the need for a new interface and navigation structure on the site to improve aesthetics and ease of use.

Showplants was also undertaking an extensive offline marketing campaign. Part of this is local advertising and reaching into home and office for sales and permanent hire. Therefore the site needed to be refreshed from the old static HTML site and was overhauled to display the extensive plant catalogue.

As the Showplants team was inundated with Christmas orders, SM2 was able to offer consulting services to assist and fast track the site development.

The result was an accessible, easy to use and feature rich web site which clearly demonstrated the extensive products and services available by Showplants. The whole site was integrated into Joomla! allowing Showplants staff to make changes to the content of the site in-house with almost no training.

The web site has been overwhelmingly well received by Showplants and their customers, with many more exciting projects in the pipeline.

SM2 retained the original vision for our site, while improving its operation and appearance and meeting most of our original goals. The techniques used for the site were simple and easy to implement and will result in quality benefits for Showplants.
