Taking the Lead

taking-the-leadThe latest release of SM2's work is the website for Service Skills Australia (SSA), "Taking the Lead", a searchable Resource Directory for trainees and assessors.

Taking the lead is a WELL-funded initiative that supports Service Skills in providing a one stop shop to promote language, literacy and numeracy skills in service industries workplaces.

SM2 was able to assist SSA by creating a website layout based on the existing existing brand and themes. The design had to usable and friendly for those working in the literacy and numeracy industry.

We created the site, directory, management and display system and enhanced functionality in  Joomla! Open Source technology. Key components and modules we utilised are:

  • Joomla! Content Management System enabled SSA to self manage the menu, content, latest news, news flashes, banners, polls and photos on the site.
  • Extensive customisation of the Mosets Tree Directory component. This searchable directory component enables you to list resources in categories and subcategories and add images, documents and links. The tool enabled SSA to display featured resources, latest resources etc. The Administration is a password protected login and the general site use will be open to unregistered visitors.
  • SM2 Email Marketing component. To reach and maintain a relationship with the users of the site, SM2 installed its own Email Marketing tool. It enabled SSA to broadcast targeted campaigns in HTML email format to any group or groups. HTML email templates are used to enhance the marketing efforts of SSA. Basic statistics are accessed by SSA to view who the email was sent to, who opened it and how many times it had been read to track the success of their email broadcast campaigns.
  • Events Calender and Sessions Components. These components allowed SSA to list events and allow the user to register their interest in attending an event.

SM2 also hosts the site, organised domain registration and installed a Site Statistics package to enable capturing and reporting of visitor numbers, page access, referrers, entry and exit points and popular pages.

To ensure the site was maintained and had relevant information to the end user, we offered Training and Support services to up-skill and support web editing staff in operational use of the website.

After extensive internal website testing, the site was released to staging area for SSA review and sign-off. Upon SSA approval, we released the new website live!
