As part of the 2007 redesign of our company website, we also revamped our hosting status page. This two-page website is hosted in a separate data-centre to our servers and provides our customers with up-to-the-minute status information on our hosting service. Generally speaking, there are only two reasons (respectively) that our clients visit this site; 1) To find out if the servers are in-fact operating normally and 2) To get an update on an issue resolution. Previously, these details were updated completely manually and did not offer a real timestatus of the service. To combat this, we built a module that automatically checks the servers in question and updates the page, giving our customers accurate notice of the current server operation in real time. In terms of design, we kept much of the SM2 website asthetic and moulded the pages, both to give the site its' own identity and also to display information in order of relevance. At the very top is the server status, represented by large “glassy” red and green icons. Underneath this is the issue resolution announcements and update-notices. We also provide additional support information and of course a contact form if needed; all styled in-line with our previous work on the SM2 website.
