SM2 was once again contacted by Musicadium to rework the existing SM2 designed and developed site to add extra features and functionality.
SM2 had previously worked with Musicadium to develop their logo, branding, marketing and promotional materials, MySpace, Facebook and website. SM2 continued in late 2007 and 2008 to create more marketing pieces and web site and application design.
Musicadium, headquartered
in Australia with networks throughout the globe, is at the forefront of
the evolving music industry providing a vital link between the millions
of independent artists, the hundreds of Internet based digital music
outlets and the artist's fans. Musicadiumwork directly with independent music
labels and self released artists enabling them to sell their music to a
global audience via the world's leading digital outlets such as Apple
iTunes Music Stores and eMusic.
The recent launch of the site was just phase 1 of the Musicadium web site/application
(built entirely on Code Igniter). The build of the application was completed with a tight timeframe and simply allows people to sign-up, add albums and tracks, and
pay online.
Some key features of the application:
- UPC/Barcode generation (including the encoded strings and large-format images)
- XML-RPC Gateway to a Wordpress installation
- Management of all the different currency’s that are imported to the system from Outlet Royalties
- Roles-based authentication and Controller/Method lock-down
- Outlet “package” generation and import facilities
- Ground-work for a (future) public API
- Ground-work for (future) server-side cross-encoding of audio files (developed but not implemented).
- “Refer a friend” utility
Strategy
-
This project had extensive planning (using a "top-down" approach) to ensure that all bases were covered and that the site would wholly cater to the users' needs
- Liased with Musicadium's Outlets (iTunes, eMusic, Amazon),
so that the project adequately integrates with their respective
technologies
- Identified key audiences and designed the site with three "pathways" in mind
- In depth copy development
Creative
-
SM2 provided design services for the Website,
online-application, blog, business cards, wall art, T-shirts, stickers, posters, flyers, Flash presentations and other promotional materials
- The 2008 site for Musicadium took its visual view from the existing SM2 designed site
- Development of dynamic brand elements and a visual language which can be tweaked for design applications
Technology
-
Using CodeIgniter we were easily able to integrate a number of 3rd
party libraries as well as building several of our own libraries to
facilitate features such as;
Paypal Integration, XML import and Export, Image manipulation, Data Validation
- As part of the new launch of the site, Musicadium released a blog created using Word Press. Musicadium aims for the blog is to be an indie musician’s toolkit. Through it, musicians can learn, improve, and ultimately make the most of their talents. Musicadium frequently posts with marketing tips, interviews, artist
and industry profiles, how-tos, never-dos and guest posts from experts
worldwide.
