NEHTA Resource Centre Development

The National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) contacted SM2 to submit a tender for the development of a custom Joomla! Component to plug in to their existing Joomla! Site.

NEHTA's mission is to set the standards, specifications and national infrastructure requirements for secure, interoperable electronic health information (e-health) systems. These requirements will then be adopted by the Australian, State and Territory governments in their own e-health systems. This common national approach will set the necessary foundations for the widespread and rapid adoption of e-health across the national health sector.

It is essential the users/consumers of NEHTA's work products have the necessary resources available to support implementation otherwise NEHTA's work is at risk of not being applied. Implementers will need assistance with understanding the standards endorsed or specifications developed by NEHTA to ensure that they are adopted and implemented effectively.

To deliver these resources, SM2 created a the NEHTA Resource Centre (NRC) Custom component. The NRC is an extension of the current NEHTA Internet website and was integrated in a way that the front end user is presented with a consistent experience when navigating between different aspects of the NEHTA Internet website.

Key requirements that SM2 addressed and delivered to NEHTA included:

  • Components that integrate into the NEHTA Internet website to disseminate technical resources in a manner which promotes adoption and implementation of NEHTA work products
  • Ensured the NRC (NEHTA Resource Centre) is an extension of the current NEHTA Internet website and must be integrated so the user is presented with a consistent experience
  • Minimised integration issues by building the NRC using Joomla components, modules and mambots
  • Assisted with the functional and technical (web-based) design of the defined requirements for the NEHTA Resource Centre
  • Develop the code for components required for the NEHTA Resource Centre, including unit testing
  • Integrate the NEHTA Resource Centre components into the NEHTA website
  • Assist with the implementation of the NEHTA Resource Centre, including cut-over
  • Empower NEHTA to simply manage and update its website and on-line activities
  • Gain new capabilities through the operation of NEHTA website
  • Create aesthetically pleasing and usable site interface
  • Built on-going relationship with a professional web development company to align website to achievement of business goals
